Gerald
Monter is never one to give up on anything. He is always plugging away at one
thing or another. He founded his own company The Holiday Organization in 1951,
after he served in the military from 1942 to 1945, taught in a public school
from 1942 to 1951, and worked as a self-employed contractor in 1947.
Gerald
Monter's early years including military service honed the leadership skills
necessary to create and grow his own business. While Gerald Monter is well
progressed in age, that hasn't stopped him from leading his company today. From
1951 to present day, Gerald Monter continues to provide direction for his
company.
Gerald
Monter received multiple recognitions for his work as founder and CEO of The
Holiday Organization. He received so many plaques, honors, and accolades that
he ran out of walls to put them on! He received the honors from over 50
organizations with his most recent acknowledgement being ranked 43 out of the
top 100 private companies on Long Island in
2003. He and the Holiday Organization received awards for advertising, sales,
and site development in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2008 from the Long Island
Builders Institute. Gerald Monter’s most recent accolades include the Long Island
Builder’s Institute Hamlet Estates at St. James Clubhouse 2008, Long Island Builder’s Institute Hall
of Fame 2009, and the Shawn Elliot Luxury Fall 2011 Featured Builder Award.
While
working hard growing his business, Gerald Monter also worked on the boards for
several charitable organizations. He is a board member and fundraiser for a
performing arts center for Long
Island University,
the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center, and is an Associate Director of the
Board of the North Shore LIJ Health System.
He was also a member of the Board of the American Cancer Society for
almost 30 years. In many cases, he was on multiple boards at once while
continuously and diligently leading his company.
If there
were anyone who deserved a long break to relax it is Gerald Monter. However, he
is not one to let anyone else work while he doesn't. Gerald Monter takes pride
in everything he has accomplished including his naming donation for the Monter Cancer
Center in 2006.
